Architect-Designed Modern Office Refurbishment in Surrey
As part of the renewal of UK Power Networks asset to create leading facilities to support their office staff and engineers in the renewal of the London power grid.
It was critical to maintain the ability for UKPN engineers to have access to the site for temporary stores throughout the phase of the works. A phased plan was integral to the solution to create a safe working facility for office and engineer teams “to keep the lights on in London”
This redundant building has laid empty for over 30 years. The building had extensive dilapidations and required a full review to bring this facility up to standard.
Achievement
A redundant and unoccupied 1930’s office building required a dramatic overhaul of the exterior and interior of the building to create new office and engineering facilities for UK Power Networks.
The building had been left empty for a number of years seeing the structure in a dilapidated state. As this building was on the site of low voltage and high voltage oil filled cables which ran through the ground floor and basement of the structure the building had to be procured in two phases.
The first phase was to relocate and make safe the low and high voltage oil filled cables, which formed part of a parallel project with the National Grid. Once complete we could execute the refurbishment of the existing building and a new side and roof extension.
The new side extension required specialist Pile designs and unique pilling rigs to help execute this challenging site. The design had to cater for the neighbouring parallel London power grid project.
The interiors of the toilets and engineers facilities had to be designed using robust low maintenance materials.
