Architectural Technician? Fancy joining us?
We’re looking for an Architectural Technician with around 3–5 years’ experience.
Not because we need another bum on a seat.
Because we’re busy. Because we’re growing. And because we think good buildings are the result of great technical thinking as much as great design.
At Fingerprintstudios, no two days are the same.
One week you could be detailing a bespoke home overlooking the Solent. The next, preparing a Building Regulations package for a listed building, coordinating consultant information on a commercial project, or helping solve a tricky construction detail before it reaches site.
We’re a small, friendly RIBA Chartered Practice based in a beautifully restored Grade II listed building iFancy n Fareham. We like good design, practical solutions, interesting conversations and plenty of coffee. We take our work seriously, but not ourselves.
If you’re looking for a large corporate practice where you’ll spend months drawing the same house type over and over again, we’re probably not for you.
If you enjoy variety, responsibility and seeing projects come together, keep reading.
The sort of person we’re hoping to meet
You have around 3–5 years’ experience working in a UK architectural practice.
You have a solid understanding of UK construction methods, Building Regulations and technical detailing.
You enjoy solving problems and figuring out how buildings actually go together.
You take pride in producing clear, accurate drawing packages.
You’re organised, proactive and happy working on several projects at once.
You can communicate confidently with clients, consultants, contractors and suppliers.
Most importantly, you’re approachable, practical and enjoy being part of a collaborative team.
You’ll probably be doing things like…
- Producing technical drawing packages for planning, Building Regulations and construction.
- Developing construction details and specifications.
- Coordinating information with structural engineers, M&E consultants and other specialists.
- Assisting with planning submissions and technical approvals.
- Visiting sites to monitor progress and resolve technical queries.
- Working closely with the project team to ensure designs are translated into buildable solutions.
- Helping maintain the high standards of technical quality that our projects are known for.
The software bit
We primarily use AutoCAD, so experience would be a real advantage.
Experience with ArchiCAD, SketchUp, BSR and Adobe Creative Suite would also be useful, but we’re more interested in someone with strong technical ability and a willingness to learn.
A quick note about how we work
This isn’t a salaried position.
We’re looking for someone to work with us on a self-employed basis. For the right person, this offers flexibility, autonomy and the opportunity to become an important part of our growing studio.
We’ll agree a competitive day rate or fee based on your experience and provide a steady pipeline of varied and interesting work.
Why work with us?
Because you’ll be trusted to get on with the job.
Because you’ll work on genuinely varied projects—from bespoke homes and heritage buildings to commercial developments and everything in between.
Because your ideas and technical knowledge will genuinely make a difference.
Because we’re building a practice we’d want to work in ourselves.
If that sounds like your sort of place, we’d love to hear from you.
Send us your CV, examples of your technical work (or a portfolio if you have one) and a few words about yourself to info@fingerprintstudios.co.uk
We’re much more interested in the person behind the drawings than a perfectly polished covering letter.
